A Structured Approach to Foot and Ankle Pain

RECOVER™

When Pain Persists, the Approach Should Evolve.

Find out more

Foot and ankle pain can change the way you move long before

RECOVER™ is about understanding what is limiting you — and building the right path forward.

You compensate. You modify your workouts. You choose different shoes. You avoid certain activities. You wait for it to settle down.

Sometimes it does.

Sometimes it keeps coming back.

RECOVER™ is Hillside Foot & Ankle's signature approach to persistent foot and ankle pain, overuse conditions, and musculoskeletal injuries.

Developed around a comprehensive clinical evaluation, RECOVER™ brings together advanced treatment capabilities, biomechanical insight, functional guidance, and individualized care within one structured approach.

It isn't one treatment.

It isn't one technology.

And it isn't one protocol for every patient.

PAIN IS THE SYMPTOM.

Understanding What's Driving It Comes First.

We believe that every patient is unique, which is why we take a personalized approach to every treatment plan. We work closely with our patients to understand their needs and goals, and we use the latest techniques and technology to provide the best possible care.

A painful heel.

An Achilles tendon that never feels quite right.

An ankle that continues to bother you after an injury.

Pain through the ball of the foot every time you exercise.

Different symptoms.

Different structures.

Different demands.

They shouldn't automatically receive the same treatment.

RECOVER™ begins by establishing what is injured or irritated, what may be contributing to it, and what your foot and ankle are being asked to do every day. Only then do we determine the appropriate direction for care.

WHAT WE LOOK AT

More Than Where It Hurts.

The location of pain gives us an important clue. But it doesn't always give us the entire answer. The foot and ankle function as part of a connected mechanical system. Mobility at one joint, flexibility through a muscle group, foot structure, loading patterns, footwear, or repetitive activity may influence stress somewhere else.

Your RECOVER™ evaluation may consider:

  • Foot and ankle structure
  • Joint mobility
  • Alignment
  • Tendon and ligament function
  • Muscle strength and flexibility
  • Areas of tenderness or swelling
  • Arch mechanics
  • Walking and functional movement
  • Calf and Achilles flexibility
  • Footwear
  • Training and exercise patterns
  • Occupational demands
  • Previous injuries
  • Previous treatment
  • Changes in activity
  • Your individual goals

When clinically indicated, diagnostic imaging or additional evaluation may also be recommended.

We don't want to simply know where you hurt. We want to understand the problem we're trying to solve.

CONDITIONS THAT MAY FIT WITHIN RECOVER™

RECOVER™ may be considered for a range of painful musculoskeletal foot and ankle conditions.

HEEL & ARCH PAIN

Including plantar fasciitis and other causes of persistent plantar heel or arch discomfort.

ACHILLES & TENDON PAIN

For selected tendon conditions involving the foot and ankle, including persistent Achilles-related symptoms and overuse injuries.

ANKLE PAIN & INJURY

Including lingering symptoms following ankle sprains and other soft-tissue injuries.

SPORTS & OVERUSE INJURIES

For active patients experiencing pain related to running, training, repetitive loading, or changes in activity.

FOREFOOT PAIN

Pain involving the ball of the foot and other mechanical or soft-tissue conditions affecting the forefoot.

CHRONIC & RECURRING PAIN

For patients whose symptoms improve temporarily but continue to return.

OTHER MUSCULOSKELETAL CONDITIONS

Not every painful foot or ankle condition belongs within RECOVER™.Your evaluation allows Dr. Alfandari to establish the diagnosis and determine whether RECOVER™ or another treatment pathway is most appropriate.

THE RECOVER™ METHOD

EVALUATE. IDENTIFY. PERSONALIZE. PROGRESS.

01 — EVALUATE

01 — EVALUATE

01 — EVALUATE

Your story matters. We look at how your symptoms started, how they behave, what makes them better or worse, what you've already tried, and how the problem affects your everyday life.Your clinical examination then looks more closely at the structures and mechanics involved.

02 — IDENTIFY

01 — EVALUATE

01 — EVALUATE

Pain is not treated as a diagnosis. We work to identify the likely source of your symptoms and recognize factors that may be contributing to continued stress or repeated irritation.

03 — PERSONALIZE

03 — PERSONALIZE

03 — PERSONALIZE

Once we understand the problem, Dr. Alfandari develops recommendations around your clinical findings, your lifestyle, and your goals. Two patients with the same diagnosis may require very different approaches. RECOVER™ allows those differences to matter.

04 — PROGRESS

03 — PERSONALIZE

03 — PERSONALIZE

Your initial plan is not treated as something written in stone.Your clinical response helps guide how care progresses. The objective is purposeful progression — not simply repeating the same treatment because another appointment has arrived.

ADVANCED CARE.

WITHOUT A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL PROTOCOL.

Hillside Foot & Ankle offers a range of modern treatment technologies and nonsurgical options for foot and ankle conditions. But having technology is not the same as having a strategy. Within RECOVER™, appropriate treatment modalities may be incorporated according to the diagnosis, clinical findings, previous treatment, stage of recovery, and individual goals. Some patients may benefit from advanced in-office therapies. Others may require greater attention to biomechanics, support, mobility, activity, or other contributing factors. For some, the appropriate approach may involve several elements working together.

The goal isn't to use everything available. It's to determine what makes sense for you.The specific combination, timing, and progression of care remain individualized and are determined by Dr. Alfandari throughout your treatment.

WHY RECOVER™ IS DIFFERENT

A Coordinated Strategy Instead of Disconnected Treatments.

When pain persists, patients often accumulate treatments.

A new shoe.

An insert.

An injection.

A stretch.

A therapy.

A period of rest.

Another treatment somewhere else.

Each may address one piece of the problem, but they don't necessarily form a coordinated strategy. RECOVER™ is designed differently.

We bring the evaluation, treatment strategy, biomechanical considerations, activity guidance, and reassessment together within one structured approach.

Your care has a direction. And every recommendation should have a reason for being there.

TREAT THE CONDITION.

UNDERSTAND THE MECHANICS.

Musculoskeletal foot and ankle problems can be influenced by the way forces move through the lower extremity. That doesn't mean every problem is “biomechanical.”

It means biomechanics shouldn't automatically be ignored.

When relevant, we consider factors such as:

MOBILITY:

Does restricted movement influence the way another structure is being loaded?

STABILITY:

Is the foot or ankle receiving the support it needs during activity?

FLEXIBILITY:

Are tight structures altering movement or increasing stress?

FOOT STRUCTURE:

Does the architecture of the foot influence how forces are distributed?

ACTIVITY:

Has training volume, intensity, terrain, occupation, or repetitive loading contributed?

FOOTWEAR:

Is your footwear appropriate for your mechanics and the activity you're asking your feet to perform?

These findings help inform the overall strategy without reducing every patient to the same formula.

RECOVERY DOESN'T END WHEN YOU LEAVE THE OFFICE.

The time between appointments matters. Your everyday activity, footwear, exercise, mobility, and response to symptoms can all influence progress. RECOVER™ may therefore include individualized guidance designed to complement your in-office care. Rather than giving every patient the same printed list of exercises and restrictions, recommendations are selected according to the condition being treated and your individual circumstances. Because effective care should make sense in your actual life.

BUILT FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO KEEP MOVING.

You don't have to be a professional athlete to care about performance.

Performance might mean:

Running five miles.

Playing tennis.

Getting through a workout.

Standing through a twelve-hour workday.Walking through an airport.

Hiking on vacation.

Keeping up with your children.

Or simply walking without thinking about every step.

RECOVER™ begins by understanding what pain has taken away from you — and what you want to return to.

Your goals help define what recovery means.

RECOVER™

Move Beyond Pain.
